here are the latest developments this morning on the school shooting tragedy in connecticut. president obama will visit new town this evening to meet with the families and attend a vigil. they will fan out to gun stores and shooting ranges across connecticut looking for clues about the 20-year-old gunman who killed 26 children and adults in friday's rampage. he forced his way into the school breaking a window at the front entrance. he shot and killed a school principal and school psychologist who ran towards him too try to protect the children. surviving twins describe how their teachers save their lives. >>> went into my teacher's office, everyone was quiet. she saved a life. she called her husband and he called the police. when the policeman came to get us he told us to close our eyes like on the picture on the news do this. and run. >> just go out. >> the medical examiner told reporters all of the young victims had been shot numerous times. as this tragedy unfolds stay with abc 7 news for continuing coverage. we are going to hear about some of the heros who helped save li

obama will be here to meet with the grieving families and attend a prayer vigil. sandy hook, connecticut. >>> and this breaking news, police just finished a news conference and among the things they talked about was recovering evidence. they said the weapons are being studied back to when they were being assembled. the weapons that shooter adam lanza had. they are still combing through the school and the vehicles and the cars around the school are being searched. when they finish the search they give them back to their owners. they are quite concerned about misinformation. misinformation is getting out there on social media from people posing as the shooter or other bogus players in this tragedy. we will have more from what they had to say at that news conference on abc7 news. >>> that grieving community in newtown came together for a vigil. they shared their stories and the sense of loss. a doctor who helped treat victims is deeply shaken by what he experienced. >> this is the darkest thing i ever walked into by far. i have been through medical training which is -- which has taught me a

for the victims of the deadly shooting in connecticut. people gathered for a candlelight vigil at the home town of teacher victoria soto. as the community mourns we now know the names of the youngest victims. reporter: tonight we're hearing a father's anguish, robby parker lost his daughter emily. she was six. >> i don't know how you get through michigan like -- through something like this. i don't understand. >> and this evening a portrait of the gunman. in one class, every student but one shot and killed. 15 first grades in that one room alone lost in an instant in another classroom, five of the victims were children. a little boy who had a twin sister, he died. his twin in another classroom, hiding in the bathroom with her teacher, survived. the school principal is among the dead. dawn hochsprung and she might have turned on the p.a. system so the eachers could be warned. mary sher hawk. her family saying mary felt like she was doing god's work, another teamer, victor yeah soto, her body found shielding her students. >> her life's dream was to be a teacher, and her instincts kicked in. >> an

, connecticut, again this evening, a small town in a small northeastern state, but the killing that happened here is breaking hearts from one corner of this vast country to another. here in newtown, 26 christmas trees placed today on the road to the school, one for every victim who died there. in texas today, high schoolers coming together to sing in honored of those lost. in oregon, hundreds gathering for a candlelight vigil. in what has become a national day of grief. but of course that grief felt nowhere more than right here in newtown, where you're looking at makeshift memorial, outside of sandy hook elementary school, people coming together there this evening to try to understand what happened. and try to comfort one another. our abc news team here on the ground covering it all and this evening for the first time, we're learning the names, seeing some of the faces of the young victims, all of them first graders. the medical examiner reporting a short time ago, many of them were shot at close range. and this evening, we begin with a father who lost his little girl. as you drive through t
